Just been sorting out the loft and while going through all my old fishing gear I discovered my old Daiwa graphite coil moonraker. Still in its original bag and, much to my surprise, in remarkably good condition, although one of the rings needs replacing. So I thought I would ask around to get some advice. Firstly would it be worth getting a new ring put on ? Secondly would it still be worth while fishing with it ? I know it`s not a brilliant rod by modern standards, but when I bought it in 1986 it was a cracking rod, I had it teamed up with my ABU 6500 c3 elite and it was a great casting rod, easy to use and had good bite detection. So is it worth getting it re-rung and using it again or should I just put it back in the loft and forget about it for another 20 years.

Yeah. Do it. I learned to fish/cast with an old diawa moonraker and it was excellent. Unless you can cast 200yrds, why not use such a rod? I still have a more recent moonraker (about 15 year old) and it's a pleasure to use for clean beach sessions. Combined with using braid, the sensitivity and bite detection are great, and even make flattie bashing and whiting fishing much more fun.PBs...Cod 8lb2oz.. Turbot 3lb2oz.. Whiting 1lb8oz..
