Think yourself lucky, my MP Alan Beith knew nothing about the Marine Bill white paper when I e-mailed him. He wrote back and asked me if I was happy about it? If I was a landed gentry though wanting to be able to chase old foxy loxy he'd have been straight on the case. NUGGET!

I decided to have a read of this white paper, the first thing I noticed is they want £32.50 if you would like a hard copy
      Cheers, Keith.

The same mob that have let the commercials run wild, pillaging our seas for profit, now want money of us to pick up the scraps left after years their idiotic mismanagement.

              Totally out of order

Like moocher says its all in there including bait collection, bag limits, no take zones, closed areas (including anglers). The licence seems to be the one thing that got everybodies backs up but there is a lot more in there than that.

If after years of ignoring scientific advice on cod stocks and allowing the commercials to carry on unchecked and at times (like in my hometown of Whitby) land huge amounts of black fish then it would be absolutely rediculous to turn around and say to anglers "right were restricting your catches". But its possible and the marine bill will give them the powers to do so.

this is the start of a government push to control anyone who has the urge to use the sea for recreation-they will even tell us which paths/tracks we can walk on which beach. As a sea angler I am not willing to pay for a license for my sport-because I feel I will not get any value for my hard earned cash.
My sport does cost me alot of money a year and it is spent in various local tackle shops acquiring tackle, I also pay quite abit for my boat to be moored at Amble marina-there is also further outlay with fuel costs etc.
I personally think I pay a high price to participate in the sport I love.
I also think it is a real shame that the folks that care and respect the seas, angling etc have not got a real say in whats gonna happen or what has happened in the past-after all these *******s think that we are plebs, only sea angler's who have'nt got a clue ( maybe we have'nt??) If we were Salmon anglers would they listen any harder?
Mr Miliband has the right to try and push this paper through,I have the right to tell these people "Told me to buy a license, I said NO NO NO!)

Just had a good old debate over a few jars in the local with harra on this one, the government have threatened for years to bring in the license for sea anglers but it has never happened, either they wernt serious enough about it or it was too hard to enforce. For me the main reason for not bringing this in is due to the fact that they could not feasibly enforce such a system, they have not got the man power to physically check licences. For instance, like PENN525 said, can you imagine a government official going to the beach/rocks at 3am in the middle of a raging northerly at some obscure mark just to check if you had a license? I for one dont think that would happen, when was the last time you saw anyone checking to see if a lobster(or crabber) was only taking the correct size, or an angler getting fined for taking undersized fish? IT DOES NOT HAPPEN! How can they even think of bringing this bill in, our government is yet again living in cloud cuckoo land.......or maybe they just want votes?

As per usual the government think they can ride roughshod over us mere mortals, lets show them that they cant! Maybe if the angling fraternity had made a stand years ago the we might not be in this mess now!
