  • Cyprus Report, surprising, see it!!

Im still here, but as its dull and grey, Ive made use of the business suite.

    Sea fishing is very dissapointing.
So I booked a trip to the dam, with the owner of The Old Fishing Shack pub, Afos. For Large mouth bass, 30 quid, Afos speaks excellent english, and told us hed take us to a spot where a party from Newcastle, had had a good day three days prior, remember this, as Its significant, as you will see in the video later. (In Bad Points)

    The Good points,

Considering its 5 hrs fishing, and you need a 4 wheel drive to get there, and it filled a day, Afos supplied all the gear, License and a refreshing beer,it wasnt a bad 30 quid. My mate Steve Gibson and I went, along with Afos, and another Jeep with 3 anglers. I caught several skimmer bream. and one Largemouth Bass, not a LARGE Largemouth bass, but nonetheless, I can cross that species off my:TO CATCH: list!.

Its a Dam, near Paphos, I'd estimate 40percent full.
Not very scenic, as the pics show. but a days fishing is an enjoyable day.

    THE BAD POINTS.
We were told by Afos, that the dam is now overfished, mainly by Bulgarians, and Russians. He wasnt wrong. You are allowed one rod per license. I counted four groups of :Immigrants: as Afos called them, the group nearest us, consisted of 5 men, the had 13 rods in the water between them. THIRTEEN RODS.
Each extra rod carries a 120 pound fine, but they know no one enforces it. or they just say they dont know whose the rods are, and allow the baillifs to take them. The method, is to groundbait an area, then livebait a small skimmer, or roach, for the Bass, last year afos had on over 6 kilos, he knows of none that size this year. The Bulgars take anything, they left with a bag of what Id estimate at over 100 skimmers between them.
They groundbait huge areas with buckets of mix, and basically clear it.
Afos approached them and asked for licenses. they simply shrugged their shoulders.

I estimated 5 metres back from the shoreline, and paced 30 paces, I counted the following..
    27 Beer cans.
    18 carrier bags,
    11 glass bottles,
    7 paper wrappers,
    3 vodka bottles,
    and various odds and sods,
This continued for the entire length of the popular spots.
    We took our rubbish,
and I picked up some that had been left the previous week, I make a point of telling you this, as you will hopefully see on the youtube video below, theres not just immigrants to blame.
pics will follow when I get home if I cant load them now.

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

Paul, what can you say to that apart from the obvious. Absolute t*ssers mate.

    Jim.
Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them.

Not particularly tourist promotion material Paul is it? Temples has been shut a good while now so it must be pretty bio degradable stuff. Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper for the Bulgarians to eat the groundbait?

When was the last time you were down at killy lake steve?! Paper bags, line, and cans were a mere tip of the iceberg. I was more interested in the shopping trollies, umbrellas, and a half emptied lake that the council ruined tryin to remove fish! Well we all know what a balls they made of that. Thankfully the larger one is devoid of such obscene objects with just a few chavas roaming around. Coarse fishing is the way forward lads. Im sorry to tell yous but theres no more fish in the sea.
