Hi hes my fishing mate. Did you check his rigs though!
Hes told me every one had clipped down rigs , Why ?? Its not as if you need to cast mega distances in the river.
We have fished the river for the best part of 20 years and have learnt a few little secrets. One of the keys is long traces, the longer the better ie 4-5ft hooklengths and unless distance is critical leave them flapping.
I remember the two of us fishing cambois beach a few years ago and getting a good hiding off super twed when the codlings were quite finicky. He was using his usual 2 hooks flapping with 5 ft hooklengths he was getting double shots each chuck whilst i was getting bites but no fish.
I think sometimes with the longer hooklengths the fish can mouth the bait (and swallow it) without any resistance and the longer hooklengths give more movement to the bait.
Alreet chukka, i fished a few pegs down from barry and i copped a look at his rigs and ive learnt a lesson! The only reason i had clipped down was to try and protect the whites i was using to tip off but i wont be making the mistake again!
Aye well stranger things have happened sless! Like you catchin a 6lber for instance! Im still workin on the sun visor matey, cant get and exact match for the colour, will a close one do?
