  • Wanting a new multiplier slosh maybe?

Hey guys just starting to piece together my sea fishing equipment again after selling it a few months back(big mistake!). Anyways I'm after a multiplier reel i mainly fish ss pier, hendom prom and roker etc. I don't really go for the rought stuff to often. I don't really have a lot of money to spend maybe £80 at the upper part of the budget so second hand would probablys be best. I was looking at the slosh's are these quiet beginner friendly beacuse everything I had before had mags on them also would a slosh 30 be to big for beach work of hendon/seaham? Are then any good at reaching 100 yards, how about the daiwa 7ht none mag there pretty cheap on ebay but not sure if I could get away with them with being used to mags or does this not matter? what else would you recommend at a good price. Also if anyone has any multi's they would like to sell at a reasonable price give me a shout I will consider it.

any help is appreciated cheers kevin.

Hello mate I've had a few penn 525 mags their old but great reels and nice to cast with . You should be able to pick one up for 50 or 60 pound . I use penn fathoms now and I can't fault them . If you've got 80 pound I'd go for a second hand one of those .

This, or even a slosh 20, can pick them up second hand for 35-40, and yes slosh30's wouldn't use them on beaches, perfect for rough ground marks loaded with 35lb straight threw and 30-40 yard lobs

I use a slosh 30 off the beach loaded with 18lb and a 60lb shocker and find it casts great also my beloved shimano speedmaster that still casts as well as it did 25 years ago........mind the same can't be said of its owner

Slosh20 is great for pier/beach work, slosh30 for the rough stuff... Don think you will be disappointed with one

              I picked up a 525 mag 2 off gumtree for £60 , as good as new . also for £80 you'll get a slosh 30 and a 20 - 2nd hand ( best to carry 2 reels ) .

The old 7ht non mag reels were always very user friendly, they were the follow on from the daiwa millionaire that was one of the first casting multi's that you could take straight from the box, load some line and fish straight off without issue. If you buy one second hand make sure it has the brake blocks in before casting it, if you are worried about it flaring up then make sure you keep the line load a good 1mm below the spool lip, far less likely to have problems. You can always load it up more when you get confident with it. I have recently gone back to my old Abu 6500 non mags, find casting much nicer with them.

Cheers for your help guys it's appreciated i'm just going to keep a look ot for what comes up now for my next question lol. I will be wanting a new(or second hand) rod not to soon after buying the reel. My debate is do I go second hand and buy a century or do I buy new and buy a sonik etc. I would be looking at spending about £150. Are Century rods more for advanced sea fishing who once they can tell the difference in rods then they make a difference to your fishing?

First of all I wouldn't go for a cheap multiplier, as you'll get yourself in all sorts of trouble with them like the ones of ebay which are about 10-15quid, as many anglers first using multipliers have done, and they're stashed in the cupboard or something for years, 7ht mag, good for clean ground no good for mixed, heard a lot of people bending the spindles on them easily, you can pick up a 525 for around 50ish, I'd say go for that rod wise, same again you can pick up a century tt sport for around 150, or even a kompressor S, Sonik rods have an extremely bad rep for snapping so i'd stay clear from those....

A good second hand rods going to be better than a cheep new one there's plenty come up for sale on here just wait for the rod you want . And it will hold its value better

for ur rod mate i would recommend a second hand century ..one with an autoclave jobby... means it retains its action. difference in fishing ??? well never fished sonik so cant tell the differnce. but i assure u it will be a better decision.

Cheers guys what about greys? i've heard there the same as sonik and have problems with snapping rings becoming loose and coming off is this all true? had a afaw six&bait 15ft but felt it was a bit to long for my casting style it looks like i'll wait for a century to come up.

The early greys rods are better than the newer ones and you can pick the up nice and cheep . My mate still uses a greys shadow , bit soft but really easy to cast with

Just to chuck in my tuppence worth ! I have both the Sonik SK3 shore rod and the Greys GRXS shore rod. They are the main rods that I use over both clean/mixed/rough ground and I havent had a bit of bother with either one of them. I usually fish both of these rods at the same time and I am very well satisfied with them.

                              cheers,
