IMAX telescopic are the dogs , get a mesh arm bait support and all your gear will go in it , easy to bait up and watch ya tip and once locked ya can put ya reel on ratchet and walk up the beach with the whole lot , not cheap but very stable . And can extend over 6 feet to keep ya line away from the swells .
If ya rock or cliff fishing any stable tripod will do ..
    I am a fisherman !
It is not merely something that I do
It is who I am !
Fishing is not simply my escape.
It is where I am supposed to be.
It is not a place that I go
But a lifelong journey that I am taking
It is a passage that was shown to me and that I will continue to show others.
When you understand all of this you will then know me .
    And we will fish together

Salt for me and all the better as I got it FOC from Mog on here, top piece of kit, very sturdy and looks good. I'd buy the matching shelter too at some point if anyone can recommend it.
      Cheers.
      Michael.

I've got the original Ian golds 5ft tripod. Light, sturdy had it about 18 years fishing in all weather's and never let me down. Can't go wrong mate.

I'll wait and see how things work out, just drop me a pm if the other member doesn't want it.

I can come down to Shields, no bother-work permitting

I'm down tomorrow, to give the new reel a run out, probably the Walkway or the Slab area on the pier.

          cheers

No bother at all, thanks very much for the thought

I can afford to buy a one, at least using the money I make on clearing out stuff I've accumulated in the past. That's how I bought my box, trolley and new surfblaster, it just takes a little while to get stuff sold off

It's looking like the Golds one is the most used/favoured

            Thanks again

I've got a golds one and the Parker telescopic one someone mentioned earlier. Much prefer the golds one. Easier to carry alongside your rod than the collapsed Parker one.

For the Sand, the Ian Golds type are fine but for hard surfaces are next to useless imo. The MTI is hard to beat if you can find one, Glasgow Angling were advertising them recently, next up imo would be the Salt.

Well going off recommendations on here, as well as face to face on the pier and off, I ordered a Golds, 6ft supermatch with the leg brace thing included today, £52.7p including the postage

Hopefully arrive before Monday, my next trip to Shields.

thanks to all for contributing advice and opinions, all very valuable to an old new starter

                  cheers

The stand was £37.90 odd and £6.90 odd for the leg thing but then there was nearly £7 for the postage.

If I'd had the cash instead of paypal, I'd have gone local but to be honest, it saved me having to faff on trying to find the best buy, then actually drive to collect the thing,( maybe nearly a 40 mile round trip, taking a couple of hours all in?) so it's a bit "swings and roundabouts"

I guess it's also where the business is going for all the local tackle shops

There aren't any ( that I'm aware of)anywhere near me though.

                        cheers

                            Ah, I thought so.

I wondered if maybe there were others I wasn't aware of but it seems not

Parking is the issue at Frasers, I've never yet been able to park outside and don't like leaving the car in the biggish car park along the road. Too much broken glass ( from car windows by the look of it) ) as well as shadey looking characters hanging around the area quite often as well. I've used Frasers a good few times over the years for course gear but that was pre online shopping days.

Then there's Moonfleet, a bit further, although it is on my way if I'm going to Shields ( or can be anyway) I like Moonfleet. I've made a few purchases there so far and will again in future-good service-good advice-good bait and good crack

Unfortunately, I had to use paypal for payment for the stand, so online it was.

Here's the thing though; I ordered the tripod yesterday afternoon, from "Basstastic" on ebay. It arrived this morning at 09.50!

Given I had a load of other stuff to do yesterday, then had work last night. I couldn't have got the thing locally myself before about this time today! and it only cost £6.90odd for the postage

When I go for a decent rod, it'll be a local buy, because I'll want "hands and eyes on", not just suck it and see and that's where you can't beat local shops.

Thanks again to everyone who chipped in, hope to meet some of you for a bit of a natter sometime
