  • Back after 20yrs

Just got back into fishing after 20yrs,due to one of my collegues at work.I,ve been out and bought the bare essentials to start off again. The only places i have fished at the moment is the glass centre and under the Redhugh bridge(Gateshead/Newcastle).

Couple of things i would like to ask is 1.Any good and easy places for a novice to fish.

2.Any paticular bait this time of year..

    Cheers,
    Darin..

Welcome to NESA D.W.P. Are you looking for marks north of the Tyne or just to the south mate.

I find at this time of year that nice fresh Lugworm work as well as anything. Use them either alone or in a cocktail with Ragworm, Mussel and Razor fish from the beaches and with Mussel and Crab from the rock marks, although most baits will fish at various times from different marks.

          back to fishing.

          Hello Darin.
I just got back after 30 years out. Caught a bag of Mackeral towards the end of last summer and well i was hooked again.
Had a mixed season so far. I live in Consett and this is 25miles to Sunderland. The Rat pier is nice and easy to fish. I have not seen much caught but i have only been a couple of times.
Fish mostly down Hartlepool-30 miles. Had some good days here with mixed bags. Nothing flash but good days. Saw one guy catch an 11 pound cod stood next to me on the Heugh. The fish are there but not in the big numbers when i was a lad.
Bait well at my age i can pay a fiver for a bag of rag and £2 for some squid and you are set up for the day.I have dug some down Hartlepool but in reality its down to my time so buying is easier. Tackle shops have loads of bait. Just make sure you order if the weekend is coming.
          Hope you enjoy your fishing.
PS The boat season is only round the corner. Have you considered this.
          Best wishes Mick.

Darin, got to say we have hit a pretty static time at the moment. I have to say that I and lots of other members could give you marks where we have caught fish at this time of the year but I would bet that most of them would not be productive now mate.

I personally have blanked the last twice I have fished so I would not like to point you in any direction at the moment lol. As you will have noticed, NESA has been very quiet over the last couple of weeks, always a sign that there are no fish being caught.

I, as are a lot of members am looking forward to the summer when we can get out there and hunt for a few red Cod. I hope I and some of the other lads can point you in a better direction then.

                    Jim.
