  • Sea of Dreams. Namibia Feb 07

As our winter season has been so good! this year for most of us,thought a look at a different venue and fish would cheer you all up.

Just returned from my once a year, get a tan or burned in my case as usual, and catch a fish for a change holiday.Lot of the lads seem to be looking further afield these days in the quest to catch fish,I am no different,I want to catch fish so Namibia has been my venue for the past four years.Norway and Gambia seem to be in focus with most, but why not push the boat out a little further.

In less than a day from leaving the front door you can be on the beach, hitting some of the best shore fishing anywhere in the world. Its not a pipe dream, yes its unfortunately out of reach for some, but you would be surprised how much or little it actually does cost overall.Thats compared to prices I hear quoted for example Norway for one weeks fishing, price was in the same bracket. When you take into account food and beer, accommodation, then believe me Namibia is a more cost effective trip.As I work in Norway now I can relate to this at five quid a pint,50 pence in Namibia and a Tenner a night quality shared flat on the beach front. No Im not trying to sell this on behalf of any company,Im just giving fellow anglers the chance to go to a place they may have thought was out their reach from previous information available..

To the most important factor, whats the fishing like.Well like everywhere, fish dont jump out the water, you have to work for them.Clean open Beachs and then Rocky Skeers with kelpy gullys running out to sea the same as ours at the ends, with a constant Atlantic swell rolling in,tackled in the same way.14 feet heavy rock rods and 7000size reels/25lb mainlines.

What you likely to catch depends on what your targets are. Most have seen the Sharks,Bronze Whalers on TV,but the edible fishing can be just as incredible,Cobb(like our Bass)and Steebras(like our Black Bream) to 6/10lb average in large numbers, and they go up to 40lb plus from the clean beachs. The Small Sharks that the locals use as bait for the Bronzies, like Smoothhounds and Spotted Gully Sharks(Big BullHuss) to over 60lb.And yes we wanted to fish for them all day it is that good, you can hardly drag yourself away from them.

Take a look at these pictures of our trip two weeks ago, including a new record 220kg Bronze Whaler ten minutes drive from our beach apartment, one of our group took out.

Im back again next February 08,we are looking for Anglers to join a group,if your interested drop me a pm.

    regards Davey

            Davey Namibia 07

Happy this gained some interest lads.

I use my own tackle, over the last five trips I have been shown by Terence Clark, how they do it,has opened my eyes to a lot of things in regards tackle.I use a South African built 3 piece,150 quid out there three years ago,one of thier one piece blanks cut up so can take on flights with me.Reels I use 30 and 50 size Saltigas,Diawa Slosh 's. but better.

John you actually dont need to take any tackle at all just you and your sun block n shades, guides provide everything needed in with price/day rate. Its just nice to cast and fish with your own gear. But most guys take a couple of own 7000 size reels to strap to rods provided by guides to fish for edibles, not Bronzies, which are all top of range.I took one of my 525mags this year, and was told 'you dont take a knife to a gun fight'and sure enough ten minutes later had a 20kg smoothhound smash is up and spit is out.Have taken a Triad,Greys, has worked well past three years on the fish, not sharks.
