  • Greys Mercury

I have just been offered a Greys Mercury for £100, the problem is that I dont know if it is a rough ground or a beach rod.

    Can anybody offer some advice.

    Thanks

    Lee

Lee, just done a google search and found this:

Description: Lightweight fast taper tip, multi modulus carbon fibre blank, designed for long range beach work. Fuji BNHG rings throughout, designed for down the butt pendulum style.

Looks like they retail at around £200 so might be a bargain!

You should have got yourself to the Hardys sale, they had a range of greys rods for sale some very cheap.

        hi m8

i have a mercury but mine is a proto-type and is a bit stiffer than the shop bought rods.
the shop bought rods are not really rough ground rods
more suited to light mixed or clean beach fishing

        good bite detection

        hope this helps

Aye, indeed they did. I bought a mercury for a meagre 65 squids! And its great!

tough as old boots IMHO, and has dealtwith all the rough stuff I\'ve managed to chuck at it.

ditto the orion I bought at the sale as well.

Hopefully they\'ll be having another sale this year. If they do, my advice would be try and occupy your self with soemthing on the saturday and go on the sunday. By sunday afternoon, all the stuff was half the price it was on the saturday, and the queue to get in on the staurday morning was \'kin huge

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.

I use a Mercury and I find it a great rod for both beach and rocks. Lee it would depend what you wanted it for. If you can put a bait a fair distance out go for it. If you want it for rock fishing only it will do the bizz ,but there is better kit for rock fishing. If your after an all rounder buy it.
