Just got back from the Go Fishing Exhibition and have a few thoughts on it.
It was probably worth the entrance money but there was hell of a lot of carp fishing tackle and displays. Even when I used to regularly course fish this never interested me.
Secondly, why do all the manufacturers bring loads of great tackle to show off but never have any tackle to sell? Most of the traders stalls there were only stocking the most popular stuff and selling it at RRP! I went with quite a large list of fly and sea tackle to buy and only ended up getting some new polarised sunglasses.
On the bright side, there was a great selection of boats to look at (and I was tempted by Fiskars Buster M aluminium boat with trailer and outboard for a show special price of about £4500. Shame I have nowhere to keep one, nor a sea faring stomach!).
I also managed to get 15 minutes of casting tuition for nothing. My borrowed tackle was a soft tipped, but firm mid and butt Zziplex, an Abu WITH LEVELWIND, and 5 1/2 oz of lead. The guy showed me how to groundcast, and told me to ignor the style shown in Sea Angler because \"...it\'s utter crap\". First attempt with no effort at all resulted in 130 yards (measured) Well pleased! With a bit of practice it\'ll be interesting to see what I can achieve. No use on the rocks though!
