I am going to have to bite the bullet and get some gloves because I suffer badly with cold hands. Once they go numb they take ages to get the circulation back. I fish with fixed spool so hopefully only need to take them off to bait up.

Any recommendations on best type to buy ?
i bought some thick neoprene wet suit material pro action gloves and lopped off two fingers on each glove
Stick a firefly hand warmer in each pocket to warm up the exposed fingers when not busy

look for a pair of ordinary fingerless gloves (can be bought off your local market or tackle shop) with built on mitts thats what i use also carry a spare pair in case it rains and you have dry pair for when it stops
I suffer the same problem, cold hands can't enjoy my fishing! I put it down to working indoors, or being a southern softy! I usually buy 6 pairs of thinsulate gloves from aldi when they are on offer, when they get wet change em for a dry pair, wash dead easy, end of the winter bin em and start again.
I got myself a pair of fingerless gloves last year for my winter fly fishing. Went for a pair of merino wool ones and have to say they are great. Theyre not bulky at all and i can do most things while there on and best of all theyre very warm even when wet.

I use a set of Snowbee SFT, really thin neoprene, you dont have to take off to bait up, to cast , ( even with a multi.), very close fitting you can tie all the rigs you want ! lasted 2 seasons so far with no harm....about £25 a pair but knock the socks off others I have tried, barbour, sealskins, shimano Because you don't have to take them off, so fingies don't get chilled in first place !
Wore on one session with the rings freezing on my rod,( My car showed -11), could feel the cold but still very bearable !
