I've still got my first rod and reel. I remember thinking I was mint on the pier when I used it first time. I was using borrowed gear off my grandads mate before that and my grandad was back casting with his Scarborough reel and rod like a telegraph pole. I remember him telling me it was a good rod cos it was made from green wood or something.

    All the gear, no idea.

begs the question why someone would feel the need for waders on a pier? how did he fall? washed off?
Always puts the fear of god into me when i see people wearing unpredictable gear that would most certainly drown them should the worst happen
Kevin fell off Sunderland Pier climbing round the gate, he was a very well known lad at the time, some years ago now. they used to have a cup in his name fished for on an annual basis. dont know what happened to that, or if it still gets used.

Glad you like it. The original photo (circa 1970) was taken at Eyemouth. This one was taken at St Abbs in 2009 - it's the rod my old man is holding in the photo:

as is this one taken this summer at Usan

Still use my old Temples rod (here alongside the latest gear at Beadnell a couple of years back) - it's the one rod I won't be rid of!
