Iv started fishing when the snow started last winter and had sum realy crap nights on roker pier and the rat house but had same really good lads dwn and had same realy good advice and same really crap advice but as i have learnt to go fishing and learn as u go in my appinion everyone learns everyday of there lives and manners and respect dont cost anything

In my eyes the best way to learn is to get yourself down your local pier and get talking to the local lads I can see where people are coming from sitting asking on a public forum expecting everything to be done for them when the best advice i'd say is to get out on learn yourself and get a bit satisfaction out of it, a majority of the lads on piers will help anyone and put them right.

I started fishing in June this year, I got some gear, had a look at a couple of books and looked at a few things on the Internet, went down the pier and had a crap session - I realised straight away that experience and local knowledge were needed, so I joined this site and started asking lots of questions!

My questions have always been answered and I've had nothing but good advice, there's loads of lads on here always willing to help out and pass on a bit of knowledge and experience. I've met a few of you now as well, and everyone has always been spot on and happy to welcome and help out newcomers - so cheers fellas! my interest and enjoyment from fishing wouldn't be half as much if it wasn't for this site and the lads on here

I really appreciate any help I get. I try to regularly post catch reports and put photos up so that I'm contributing a bit as well and not just asking for advice all the time!

Are the maki in?
What times high tide?
Where'd you catch that bass?

Just been thinking there about how I used to find out about the weather and tides. Before you could buy tide tables, I used to cut out the tables in the Sunderland echo for the week ahead. As for the weather, I used watch (or tape) the farmers forecast on a Sunday for the week ahead. This showed the Atlantic charts and you could say that it turned you into some kind of amateur forecaster. There was also a forecast on a Wednesday for the rest of the week with the Atlantic charts again. Even now, I'd rather get my forecast by looking at these charts.

I very rarly (im not the best at spelling) look at the weather i just take me floattation suit just in case and the tide i check on the app iv got on my phone its try n errore i put it down to

You really have to check the weather mate, it can literally save your life. If you fall in off the pier and there's any sort of sea on, the flotation suit might stop you from sinking, but it won't stop you from being smashed against the pier walls by the sea.

I go only of a saturday night as iv got 3 kids so thats the only time i get to go and the weather has been ok so fare but i no the winter is just around the corner so will be checking it more then m8

tells you weather,wind speeds and direction . also at certain times of the day .
