Hi all just a question about catching conger from the northeast shoreline IE can lt be done never hear of anybody catching them so is it a case of we don't fish for them using large baits wire traces etc etc or is it just a case of there not there to be caught

I was looking at the blocks the other week at low water and wondering just exactly what might be lurking in and around them at various states of the tide.

        You never know

theres def a few about!!! a few cod anglers catch them every year off the shore but only one or two a year!! but we dont know the numbers cause they hide in their hidey holes!! so the trawlers etc dont get them!!

you could be right , there was an article in sea angler a few year back where anglers fishing through the gaps of massive blocks similar to ssp targetting and catching conger so there could be conger under ssp blocks i suppose,, but overv the last few yeras there have have been conger taken from the N E coast ,have known and seen pictures
of a few from taken from craster / howick area

i tried for them off SSP many years ago at the blocks while having i night fishing session.... no conger but did get a canny lobster, was fishing right on the edge of the blocks straight down the side with mackerel fillets/flappers

I'd expect the fish quey North Shields would be one of the most likely places to get one.

Me and my mate fished Cullernose one day a few years ago now. My rod was pulled over by this bite, didn't have to strike into it, it just kept moving away from me at a slow steady pace but I couldn't do a thing with it. It bit me off in the end.

I've had the same experience at Eyemouth as well.

My mate reckons the pipe next to shields fish key boat rod and full makkie produced conger but I wasn't there so don't know if he is pulling my leg lol
