  • Advice on braid please

Can any of you tell me whether braid will cast ok off a multiplier, I'm thinking about giving it a go (30lb).

    Cheers.

Braid is'nt suited to multipliers because if you get a nest (as everyone does at some time) getting it out is nearly impossible. It's hard enough getting a nest out of mono but braid is so fine it knots very easily.

Stick with good quality Mono line mate, stay clear of Braid unless its for Boat fishing,I've also tried it with my fixed spool reels and could'nt get used to it,some people swear by it for Fixed Spools but its not for me and I definately would'nt use it on a Multiplier
      Cheers Alan...

I know some lads use it for light spinning with small baitcasters or fixed spool reels, never tried it myself though. I bet a decent pollock feels good on the other end of braided line though.

make sure your multiplier has a strong spool, braid can "bed into" a multiplier spool, and eventually break it!....

Hello, I've started using braid last year when I started fishing again but I have only used it for spinning and plugging and a few times when bottom fishing. I have never used it on a multiplier, the problem I can see is it has a tendancy to cut in on itself unless it has been wound so the coils do not sit too close to each other if you get my drift.
Modern fixed spool reels cope with with braid pretty well as they lay the line "criss/cross" so to speak, to prevent the braid biting in on itself.
If you do decide to try braid I found that you must use some mono backing to prevent it from slipping around the spool and if you pull for a break use a rag or bit of stick as it'll slice into your fingers.
Personaly I think it's great for spinning work but the lack of stretch means you have to go canny when a fish is on. I have used "fireline" and found it ok.
Sorry for rabbiting on, I don't get out much, but i hope that this is some help to you.

A good length of mono gives you some give when playing a fish as well.
