  • Removing rod lacquer/finish.

Hope i've posted this in the right place! Does anyone know how to remove the finish of a rod, is it done by some sort of solvent or is it done by sandpaper and elbow grease! Surely sandpaper or emrypaper would ruin the blank? The reason being that I have noticed the ring on the butt section of my rod is cracked and the finish is a bit tatty so i'm thinking if I stripped it down to the blank it would be much cheaper to have rewhipped. Cheers

why run the risk of damaging a rod ? take it to a recognised builder ,much safer mate.
    To whoever stole my anti-depressants
    I hope you're happy now

Zippie,I was just wondering if it could be done with some solvent solution because I would not attempt to do it if I was to damage the blank, Just another case of trying to save money coz I seem to spend so much on pulluting these rock marks with lead weights, hooks and other gear with little results this season. Codhunter do you mean the ring can be replaced on the same support? Thanks for your replies, much appreciated.

Thanks for the offers and advice but all I was asking is '' How do you remove the high build from a rod?''. Does anyone know?

Codhunter: Thanks for your reply, I was talking to a bloke last night and he said I should leave it because it was only a hairline crack on the side of the ring and being on the butt section I should only change it if it got worse.
