  • st marys in winter

been fishing the pilar and north east corner of the island over the summer with the odd bit float fishing in crisps.wheres the best spots in winter when theres a sea away.also I know the first corner of the prom as you come down road is worth a shot at high water on a big sea.theres a spot at the other end of the prom before you go onto the causeway buy cant remember what its called, again high tide shot but need a big cast I think?

I think you're probably meaning the Latch Dyke Peter - more of a mid-tide shot as it ebbs, it empties out a bit at low water. You go down onto the rocks in front of the prom and launch one, a couple of hours or so after HW & fish it back. Prom & boat station both good at high tide in a big northerly. On the Island itself I'd only fish Crisps if there's any kind of sea on, only fishing the pillar when it's flat. One of my favourite shots is West Bay (fishing from the skeer a couple of hours or so either side of LW), again when there's a good sea running, not very productive in the flat. (A club-mate had five from there yesterday morning up to about 4 1/2 lb).
