Hi, I used to sea fish back when I was a teenager (with mixed success) but for the last few years ive been fly fishing on the rivers. Ive doing a bit of lure fishing recently, mostly catching mackerel with the odd pollack and im just getting into LRF. I realised how much I enjoy being by the coast so ive decided to get back into sea fishing.
Can anybody recommend a decent rod and reel that wont break the bank. Ive never used a multiplier so im guessing I would be better off sticking with a fixed spool for now.
Coming from fly fishing Im used to feeling every move that the fish makes so I would quite like a rod with a bit of feel to it, and im not massively built so I would probably struggle a bit with a very powerful rod anyway.
Ill mostly be fishing the coast between Tynemouth and Seaton Sluice and the Tyne aswell, both on rocky marks and off the beach.
Any advice or tips would be much appreciated, im not after your secret spots, im willing to try and find my own.
    Thanks, Daryn

Welcome to the site mate, been through the same myself, fly fishing on rivers then sea fishing, fly again then back to sea which is where i'll stay probably.
From what your saying I reckon st marys could be right up yer street.

Nice, the one river I havent managed to get on yet. A few friends fish it and they rate it highly.

If you want a shot at it for just a try there's the stretch at Weldon bridge, used to be able to get a day ticket from the anglers arms for a tenner, that was a few years back mind.

The pub still does tickets. Ive been meaning to get on it, just havent had time. Its been a poor season on the fly this year. Ill be heading to the Tees to get my grayling fix soon and then ill probably focus on a bit of sea fishing once ive got a bit of gear together. Too many rod choices making it confusing.

Hi and we'll come to the site m8. I'd recommend a heavy ground rod Ither century or zimplex for winter fishing and reel wise I'd think about a daiwa Saltist 30h they are bullet proof and my recommendation wud be suitable to handle any of our coast line. Stay safe fella wen out there as it can get a bit dodgy fishing in the winter. Fisherman
