  • chest waders/ boots

after pros cons of chest waders, what i have heard is different things.

thought neoprene chesties had neoprene only on body and legs but not in the boot part but looked on ebay the other day and saw some which said neoprene top to toes ??.

do neoprenes make you sweat bad like some people say.realy for myself i fancy some for keeping wind chill out and i wont be walking big distances with them but my biggest prob my feet suffer badly with cold.

any opions advice regarding above prices and best makes also appreicated.

would plain rubber chesties be good enough.

also looking for a good pair but not to dear 30 to 40 quid for a pair of boots must keep feet very warm waterproof and to come half way approx up calf.

thanks in advance for any replys
did you know panel pins comes in diff sizes ?

Depending on how far you walk Skeetex Moon Boots are some of warmest I have ever used. Had them on at Staincliffe couple of winters ago when we had that really cold snap and were spot on. Only thing is they are not great to walk any distance in.

        Hiya John/r
Just recently I bought a pair of breathable stocking foot waders ..like breathable material and neoprene socks stitched into the wader ...I've never looked back mate ...I can walk miles all you need are some wading boots that are a size bigger than your normal boots so as to accommodate the neoprene socks ..before I got these it was all neoprene and as you say sweat like hell in them .you almost feel like your feet are slipping around the inside of them ..So I have the breathable ones for summer and neoprene for winter

I gave up on neoprene chest waders due to the sweats , I would get back to the car and take them off , my tracky bottoms , my socks , and my t-shirt etc would all be steaming from sweat , your feet slide around in the boots due to wetness and when the winter temps drop , they leave you feeling freezing cold . I now use a pair of plain old rubber ones I get off ebay for £20 made by Dunlop and cant complain about them at all. if you fish from the car neoprene ones may be ok ?

              Thanks mate
..no it's a standard welly but with the neoprene covering your legs the sweat just literally wets your feet through

                Neoprene Chest Waders

If you suffer from cold feet there is nothing better to solve that problem than neoprene chesties.I did suffer terrible cold feet in the standard Ocean rubber chest waders of the day, till l changed over to neoprene waders over twenty years ago, never suffered since including in low sub zero tempratures, although my waders the neoprene also go s down into and covers the entire inside of the boots.

Certain makes the neoprene does nt go right down inside the boots, solve that problem by waring neoprene socks over thin cotton socks, and also add a pair of thermal feet insoles as l do to the boots. This will also stop your feet slipping around inside the boots.

As for sweating while waring neoprene chest waders, you wont enough to make you damp to affect you if your not walking very "far".,If you do sweat it wont be much, cotton running jogging pants all you need to ware inside neoprene waders to stay warm .If its real cold Norway type minus tempratures as we have tried, add thermals/ long johns underneath the joggers you wont get cold. For staying both warm and dry in winter the advantages far out weigh the negatives for waring neoprene waders against plain rubber chesties. For anyone who doesnt know by now Jeans for cold weather are the worst thing to ware for keeping warm in winter.

I've got some cheap headwear chesties - about 40 quid from fishtec BUT if you join their loyalty club (10% off all orders and free delivery) for £25 you can get the chesties for free

In honesty they're not the best waders in the world but they are quite hard wearing and they keep me dry. Wouldn't fancy wearing them on the rocks though cos the boots aren't that grippy.

The good thing is that you don't end up dripping with sweat like the neoprenes. You do need your thermals under them in the winter.........
