Changes are needed across the board for commercial and leisure fisherman, for the good of peoples lively hoods and sport , to help keep our fish stocks healthy and sustainable , as I said above I have no problem with people taking legal size fish and nobody should feel guilty taking them it's there right , .

there is a school of thought that says it's better to keep the small ones and let the bigger ones go as they are the ones that can spawn, not sure about that but I can see the point.

I was thinking the exact same thing, a 1lb 3 yro cod can lay something like 250.000 eggs compared to say an 8lb cod that can lay upto 2.5 million eggs. Makes more sense putting the bigger sexually mature fish back.

Many a time my lads been told to put a legal sized whiting and pollock back by grown fisherman because its not in there mind "big enough" to keep, pure ignorance by some of the I know best brigade. If its sized and you want to keep it then keep it, as said it costs enough for bait and tackle/equipment.

What If MLS was raised up-to a size when different species of fish become sexually mature or just above. This way the sizeable fish that can be taken for the table have possibly had the chance to breed, larger fillet sizes & worth more money to the commercial fisherman. It could also encourage commercials to use a greater mesh size, reducing by catch. This obviously isn't going to improve fish stocks overnight but surely we have to start somewhere.

I keep every fish I catch, regardless of size.

I don't eat them though as I hate the taste. They get liquidized in a blender and spread on my garden as fertiliser.

What do propose then Steve, maybe a digital head butt sent over a fibre link or do we just strip to the waist and fight like gypsies?

Or accept the fact that your sarcasm detector requires calibrating........

As an aside point, I shot a baby rabbit last night and the carcass is currently providing sustenance to a chilli plant.

Sorry fella, there's been a lot of decent posts brought down by clowns recently, so I did miss the sarcasm maybe a little smiley would have helped.

I'm all for shooting baby rabbits tho.

But if you take all the small fish it will greatly reduce the number of bigger fish. I think litttle common sense is needed only my opinion

I didn't say that I agreed with it just that I can see the point of it. big fish spawn small juvenile fish don't
