Theres not a lot doing up there at the minute, even worse than over here!
If you are to go over, you'll get the odd dogfish from the marks west of Brighouse bay. If all else fails, there should be flatties in the river, plus the odd bass if you're lucky.
If I was you though, I'd wait until next may/june to go over.Davy

i fish the kirkudbright / brighouse bay area quite a bit but never bother during the winter months. that area is a much better summer venue with a great variety of species to catch, doggies (often in plague proportions), pollock, wrasse, bass, cod, mackerel, coalies, flatties and many others even the odd strap conger.

if you're over that area this time of year balcary will probably give you the best chance of a big cod. not a great venue for numbers of cod but a superb venue if u want to stick it out for a real biggie, balcary gives you one of the best chances of catching a 20lb plus cod in the country. i've fished it several times and never been lucky enough to hook into one of the biggies but have seen two huge fish landed and one even bigger lost. its quite a few years since i fished there so may not be as good now.

I've had a 15 pounder and a 9 pounder within twenty minutes of each other - but they are the only cod I've ever had from there!
I fished on the saddle once (at the point itself) for over 7 hrs and only managed dabs, so decided to move. A well known north east angler moved into my spot, and his first five chucks yielded over a 100lb. of cod!
Gutted!....(not the fish - me!)
