Two Subjects on forum recently, one that constantly keeps getting bounced about,so thought Id stick my two penneth in as well.Firstly new angler asks about above rod, and the connection our old favourite Sea Angler Mag!
In respect of SA,as has been said can be very same same month in,year out,and I ve read them all,Good, Bad and Dustbin material since 70's so think I ve seen what they have to offer. But in thier defence and rival monthly's,every now and again they do actually show some new "ROD", reel, gadget or idea,so that even old hands can judge for themselves, learn a trick or two, even the "professionals" who know it all and we have all met them down our local tackle shop.Advice on that,Monthly mags!,
"New to the Sport Anglers" read them, dont let anyone tell you different,or "CALL YOU A PLUM" as once happened to me for looking in one,may save you a few hard earned pounds or pocket money.
Whats my connection, wanted a "three piece travel beach rod" UK design you could actually shore fish with and catch fish.In my book thats cast six oz leads and a decent size bait.Ever try and get a 14 feet two long section beach rod on a plane and some Air Lines want to lock you up.So SA comes back into the equation,in there was the new on the market "Triad" and a lot of others to choose from.Gave me an idea of the options, may have made a wrong and expensive one,but I had something to compare against. But SA gave me alternatives the choice was mine.
As for the Triad rod since November 04,its done Norway and one or two
Channel Islands, and Namibia three times where it still resides on loan in the care of a well known Namibian International angler. He likes it as I do,fishing wise, mixed ground and big swells, onshore in ya facewind in its stride.Fish it down butt Mags and Slosh 's 20lb line maximum, easy casts 80 to 100 yards mullet head baits and six oz.As for fish it nailed a few over 20kg including Rays and Smoothhounds.Would not use it in the real kelp heavy ground, but would say a nice mixed ground "fishing rod".And No I dont work or have shares in Greys or Sea Angler, and have made a few expensive mistakes with rods but this has not been one of them.Would I use it here, probably not, there better options and plenty choice to choose from,Where's them old SA's.
