are you saying you would be happy for all forms of fishing to be banned in areas the size that they were talking about then where would us pleasure and match anglers fish, its jus the greedy B*stards of new time rawlers that clear anything in their path, theres no need for it, it just makes me angry that at 17 years old i will not have the chance in future to do some serious fishing for species i like such as cod because they will all e gone

      Hello mate,
Thats not what I meant, but I do think that we have to take a serious look at fish stocks around our waters, we dont have to go that far back. I can remember as a boy pulling flatties out of craster harbour three at a time on a handline. And watching herring boats at Seahouses spilling hundreds on the quayside.
In my lifetime catches have fallen dramatically, as you say, mostly to supertrawlers. But we should all play a part, after all, a journey of a thousand miles, starts with a small step.

i dont know whether you recall it or saw it for that matter but there was a short piece on the coast program about a similar project around Lundy. they said in 18mths the populations of marine life were in some cases 10 times what they were outside the restricted areas! it works no doubt about it!!

I hate to admit it but i cant see anything happening in the near or distant future for various reasons but the main ones being the spineless creatures that are in our government will do nothing to protect the seas, the other fact being that for years the angling groups have failed to form a strong party to fight our corner. Im not saying that it would have a major effect straight away but like hiram said small steps in the right direction.....

The latest is - "There's no Cod left because they've all toddled off further up North due to Global warming, nowt to do with overfishing guvnor" that's the industry's response to yet another desperate plea for an immediate ban before cod disappear from our waters for a very long time (for ever maybe)

WAHAY. That must mean the geet big tuna will be back in no time followed by sailfish and dorada.
A bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.
