    right lads was fishing Tynemouth fri/sat and a poor night only got two dabs and a pouting had the float rod down the side and got this anybody know what it is Ive been fishing 41yrs and my dad even longer and never seen one before

    It looks like a Weever to me mate, caught one similar last week on Whitby pier.

      It's a lesser weever. There are spines in the dorsal fin. Handle with care as a sting is quite painful.
      To get away from dragons and catch monsters.

              I was lucky with the one I caught last week. A kind fella on the pier shouted out "don't touch that" then came over and unhooked it for me.
