I thought the same with this months TSF. We're in December now and there was very little on how, where, what, eh? on fishing for cod from the shore. In Oct and Nov versions of both had nowt in about shore caught COD really!
Still stuck on spinning for Mackeral and Bass!"And I looked, and behold'a pale horse; and his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed with hi, and power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword and with hunger, and with the beasts of the earth"

innit just that these mags are aimed moreso at those on the south and southwest coasts?
They have a few things relating to our patch but when was the last time any of you caught a bass on a lure?
As a relative novice, I read with the hope of learning something new, but even after about 6 months i can see these mags for the sh!t talking, tackle flogging guff that they are.
As for the expensive rod and custom modified multiplier. BOLLOX - I started with a £30 kit from argos and fished just as well as any of my mates with £350 zziplexes and Abu multipliers.

I was at the Sea Angler office on Monday....and Cliff Brown, Deputy Ed, showed me the biggest pile of letters you have ever seen.....people asking the mag how to tie a shockleader!
What you have to remember is this, people all over the country are new to the sport of sea angling, not everyone is as knowledgable as you are. What exactly would you like to see the magazine cover?
I did a feature on Hendon Prom in October's edition, so they do their best to cover some of the north east.
And as for advertising....do you honestly think that the price of a magazine covers, printing, publishing, wages, etc etc...? I think not! Advertising is what keeps Sea Angler magazine at the price it is...
And finally, that famous old saying - "you can't please everybody...."

Cracking point mate, not really much you can say to that. They are obviously giving people what they want then. I don't know how many times I have thought " Not again" when I have seen the shockleader question being answered but we tend not to think about new people buying the magazine every month.

Too true Jim...Lets face it, if we had our way, the mag would be filled from front to end with pics of Blyth beach, Shields pier, Horden, Ryhope, Whitley, Tynemouth...and every pic showing a local lad (or lass) holding a double figure cod....Fishing just aint like that!
People who decide to come into sea fishing, and know absolutely zilch, always turn to literature. Books tend to be dated, although do give an insight into rigs etc. The monthly glossy's are usually packed with advice, how to tie a shockleader, how to peel a crab, presenting a worm bait correctly, and the old favourite, how to tie a one up one down flapper! All bread and butter stuff to the likes of you and me and the majority of anglers on this forum, but spare a thought for the angler just starting out - we all have to start somewhere - somebody had to show ALL of us how to tie a knot at one time or other!
Just remember next time any one of us are on the local beach, prom, pier, rock edge, that when that novice comes down and plants himself ten yards from you, you'll be glad he read the latest issue that showed him how to tie a leader, and the importance of safety when casting!

Lol too true.
I remember when I first started shore fishing, as you say trying to find decent books was just about impossible (yes they were printing books then Steve and Keith). No internet either so I had to rely on info from friends that I thought were experts. A good while later I realised they were not experts at all lol.
I don't know how many times I have given rigs away to people who have just taken up the sport so that they can copy them. So much easier than hunting all over the place for info.
