  • Is it just me??????

    Hi All,

I've just been out to fish and returned some what pi@#ed off!!! I initially thought I'd give King Edwards a shot but found that the sea was like a mill pond and basically I could see my reflection in it. So, after a couple of minutes thought about heading north or south I thought I'd give the river a shot - I'd heard a few good reports and thought why not!
Off I went down to the fish quay only to find that it was littered with trawlers, no problem I'll find another spot further down. No you won't I hear you cry!

This is my point - why do you have to drive to Newburn from North Shields just to find a fishable spot on the north bank of the Tyne? I went down to the ferry port area only to find a huge length of perfectly safe river bank fenced off by developers. Who do they think they are? Who sold them this land? Whats worse is I bet the sneaks that have bought it are either foriegn or cockney wide-boy business types! The area in general is already over re-developed as it is, and the closest you can get to the river up to this point is standing behind pompus high rise blocks of "luxury" flats!!! All of which are likely to be owned by city workers who wouldn't understand the importance of historical past-times such as fishing. Who do they think they are?

My little boy is 18 months old and I'm looking forward to doing the things with him that my dad did with me. This includes Sunday afternoons on the riverside teaching him how to fish. Fishing the river is generally safer than the north east rock marks. Looks like I'll be stuck with no option but to take him to Blyth pier - which is already normally over crowded, or the beach. How can a 5 year old be expected to launch a 5-6oz lead far enough to catch on the beach?

Anyway I returned home bait untouched - angry! Took it oot on wor lass who said "shut up eastenders is on" and that was that!

Is it just me or does anybody else bear this grudge?

angling spots on the north bank of the Tyne are gradually being eroded, i take you mean Frazers area with the metal fencing, funny how on the other side the council are opening more areas up with new proms etc. Makes you wonder. Yes it is very frustrating

Steve I understand what you are saying mate. The problem that we all have now has mainly been caused by people that sign in to this forum every day.

They don't take their rubbish home. Nothing more and nothing less. As long as it happens we will lose more and more marks and will be able to do nothing about it.

      Jim.

It was a figure of speech Micky, you know as well as I do that there will be people that log onto this site and others, that do not take their rubbish home and never will. The same people don't care that places are getting taken away from us, they will just mess up another place.

Just ignorant lazy gits is what they are. I really can't understand it, especially on most of the piers as when you get back to the car parks there are nearly always bins there too.

            Jim.

whenever I turn up at my local beach, I have to spend a good 20 mins picking up crap from other anglers...bait wrappers, frozen ammo bait wrappers, line, crisp packets...BEER TINS!!!!!!!!!! does my head in...you will probably have a bag to take your fish home - why not have a bag to take your crap home?????? I watched a guy on Hendon Prom who'd just had a pretty bad overrun while casting. It was a bad 'un, so decided to strip all the line from the reel. What was left was a big pile of unwanted line lying on the prom, then he was picking it all up and wrapping around his arm, and I thought good on yer mate, your picking it up and probably gonna put it in your box, take it home, and discard it - WRONG!!!!!! he picked it up alright, only to throw it behind him onto the grass at the back of the prom!!
They can only be described as muppets!

i agree mate on everysingle trip to south shields pier the end is allways covered in crap u got all the idiots up thier drinkin and just leaving there beer cans everywhere massive amounts of line tangled up and the one that realy gets on my nerves are the massive amounts of used rags that people just tie to the railings and leave.
, its not that hard to put it all in a plastic bag and drop it in the bin at the start of the pier it doesnt even have to go into your car, people like this do indeed ruin fishing spots making them stink to high heaven and totally unpleasant to fish in

                  Litter

                  Jim

I'm not so sure that it is all down to litter. I think the fact that Newcastle is "fashionable" at the moment and everybody and thier do wants to make money out of it! The re-development schemes "pompus flats" will no doubt be deralict in 20 years time when everbody realises that they are an overpriced luxury!

In the mean time the banks of the River Tyne are being swallowed up by large non-local companies.

Fishing may have at one time kept kids/youths out of trouble in the areas of North Shields, Walker, Wallsend etc - when they could just wander down the river and have a chuck anywhere!

Now the'll need a car to get anywhere decent let alone safe! Dont want to tottally dismiss the litter thing but surely the council providing more bins and gentle persuasion from decent anglers would help overcome this problem to some degree.

I think its all about money personally!
