twice when float fishing on st marys I had something take the bait and lost it both times, both in the same area(id say exact spot),the wind was pushing float along and first time it went under I struck and had a couple of big pulls on the rod then it bent round and as I pulled back it went slack.wound in and hook link had snapped in about the middle.i had 6lb fluro hook link on.hour or so later and I had gone upto 8lb hook link ,put float over same spot and bang its away again, big pull round and I can feel its on then slack, this time the bottom 6inch of the hook link it curly and hook gone, both times I had a big head hooked rag worm and a long thin strip of washed squid, could it have been a good size wrasse ?a lad I was speaking to thinks maybe theres a small conger eel there.i was fishing in a good depth and right near the bottom.ill be trying again with stronger line as 8lb was the biggest I had with me as don't want to get snagged up and loose the float .has there been any conger eels caught there before?

I'd go with the Conger theory, their teeth would make very short work of 8lb snood line. It's exactly the sort of ground where I've known lads go Conger fishing in Dorset so it's not beyond the realm of possibility Conger would be there.
Doubt a Wrasse, even a monster, would take a bait down far enough to chomp through the line 6 inches up the snood whereas even a strap Conger would be capable of doing so.CLIP IT AND WHACK IT
