  • Port Patrick

I want to go to somewhere where there's a chance of various species from the shore and was thinking port Patrick . I've fished there and isle of Whithorn but i was a kid and can't remember the area.
I have the gear but wondered if anyone can advise on when to go regarding tides, I could pop up next weekend but don't want to go up if the conditions will be against me for any reason.
Any advise and help would be appreciated, I'm thinking of going up on a Friday and returning on the Sunday fishing day and night if possible. The ideal would be a bit of a species hunt with a rod out for bigger stuff and then another for spinning or LRF.
    Species 2012.
    Uk. Codling,whiting,

    Lanzarote. Scorpionfish,damselfish,red grouper,dusky grouper,red bream,white bream,red snapper,vermillion snapper,ornate wrasse,

Port Logan could be another choice for you. You get plenty of mini species off the pier over high water, plus you've got the beach which can throw up flounders, dabs, plaice and bass.. The rocks either side of the bay are good for Pollack and wrasse, while throwing a big rod out will guarantee you a doggie with the chance of conger., If I was you, I'd head along the path south that you see at the base of Logan pier. There are some good marks along there.

      Thanks for that,
What strength line should I use on my penn 525's ? I guess it needs to be strong enough to cope with a conger if I'm lucky enough to hook one.

It's rough ground, so I'd just tackle up as you would over here with a rotten bottom

I fished at port Patrick last year,if you drive past the bay you come to a Carpark up the a hill, jump out n climb over top of rocks there's a nice spot to fish from, I float fished close in had a few nice pollock on one rod and mackerel on day lights, used 15down to ten on float and 25 straight trough on big bait rod, biggest fish was 7lb but cracking couple ours and a cracking spot, went with a few pals who caught a mix of pollock haddock wrasse dogfish and codling, flatties and whitening caught in the bay.really nice place to visit, local boozers are a must
