  • spinning reel braid...

my reel was playing up this morning while catching mackerel...how i managed to get the fish in is short of a miracle as when i was turning my reel handle it was taking about an inch of line every 10 turns lol every time my float went under i had to reel like mad and swing them up the wall anyway i bought a replacement this morning a rovex ceartec 3000 and it came with 2 spools im filling one with mono and the other with braid but what size braid can someone send me an ebay link for one. i want it strong enough to have to tie a leader but not to light to snap off or wind knot as ive heard about thanks anyway gents.

July catch report 359274027 and 1 mackerel

I have used braid for around 6mths and have NEVER had a wind knot....
I bought a cheap Chinese braid off Ebay, think it was £7 for 300m including shipping. I use 20lb braid with a short 18lb rubbing leader of mono and find that I snap or straighten hooks when snagged... the braid never snaps. I also think that wind knots seem to happen if your spool is overfilled....

Don't be afraid to try a 20lb braid and don't fill your spool as high as you would mono, for £7 im sure you wouldn't be disappointed.... Im certainly not and I wish I make the swap earlier!

Word of warning mate, I have the 4000 version loaded with braid and snapped the bail arm when pulling out of a snag. If you go down that route be carefull putting pressure on the reel and if you pull a snag out by the braid wrap it round something it cuts skin like cheeswire!
