Are you actually "allowed" to fish Warkworth Pier, I hiked up there from the car park a couple of months ago, there is a sign there that says "No Fishing" but it is hidden by the greenery. Does anyone actually enforce the no fishing rule or is it just ignored?

Don't worry about the sign, it has been there since at least the late seventies. We have had a caravan there since 76 and have never been been stopped going on the pier except when repairs were being carried out.
Hardly ever gets crowded as its a bit of a trek. Very clean sandy bottom so you hardly ever lose any gear.
