I was intrigued to read about herring being caught on both ssp and roker pier 6 at a time the guy said, now in 40 years of sea fishing I have honestly never seen a herring landed from the shore and for me [if the thread is true] which I think it is, is absolutely fantastic, 100 hundred years ago there was in the north sea untold millions of herring chased by thousands of big Bluefin tuna, about 50 years ago the herring stocks collapsed through massive overfishing and the tuna buggered off the only option was a total ban on herring fishing to the detriment of the herring fleets that once abounded along our coast line, but by that time they really had fished themselves out of business so conservation took over and after all these years its actually made a difference, the herring are making a welcomed come back and hopefully the tuna, a good feel story all around I hope.

I have a different take on it ......The mackerel have been so hammered and this is letting the few herring what show off our coast a chance to get to the daylights before the mackerel do
We always see a hand full on the boat each year but never seen them 3-4 at a time as reported, thou saying that i have seen them doing it 4-6 at a time on the west coast...herring between 6" and 9".................__................................ .............................
