  • Worm Bait ripoffs

What method are bait shops using to measure a pack of Rag?

Over the last few weeks, I have had one pack which had loads of formiculite, and very few worms, and they were thin, straggly and in poor condition, I had another pack from another shop, that had just 4 and a half worms, but the worms were bloated and thick, but really short for rag, I am strongly suspecting they had been bloated up on fresh water, just to increase the weight of the pack, I am particularly annoyed about that shop as the owner knew I was off on a night fish, and it meant I was short and had no bait for the high tide in the morning, I am planning to go back and give him a piece of my mind.
A friend of mine bought a pack from another shop, and they were half dead, thin straggly and pretty much useless, I have heard other complaints about other shops as well...

So what gives? or are tackle shops just not bothered about reputations anymore, I for one have no qualms about digging my own bait, but sometimes I just have no time to do it, but if this crap attitude towards customers continues, they are going to lose trade from us, I have already heard from several of my fishing acquaintances that they refuse to use certain tackle shops now simply because of getting ripped off with bait, I am sitting on the fence wether to continue to buy bait fron the remaining shops in my area, or even as far as to use a private bait digger or go out and dig myself.

Simple answer is take it up with the tackle shop check ya worm before ya use it. I use 2 tackle shops for bait rutherfords and nets only ones i stay with. Lots of people moan/slag off tackle shops for bait if its no good dont use them. If you go in once and a blue moon spending a tenner on worm or a lad who goes in all the time spending 40 quid plus a week on bait who do you give the best worm to? I can see your point as your money is as good as the next but a tackle shop owner well any good one will look after his regulars

Well when its late on the pier, and you are just opening the bag up and seeing what is in and the shop is shut, kind of pointless to complain as no proof.

Reputation should be everything to these shops, not using underhanded methods to drop one on the customer or selling bad bait in the first place, and from experience, if you aren't happy with the bait after checking it in the shop, it becomes a take it or leave it situation, again, it goes back on to the tackle shop owner, as it seems they don't care about rep.

tackle dealers not caring about worm condition

i dont think so,more than ever customers are need thru the door

open the packets when you get the worm, end of story.

dont leave it in the car boot for 6 hours after you get it its perishable goods, which wont last forever, and as such needs to be looked after

                      worms

Open packets in the shop and sort out face to face, then name and shame them on here for trying to rip you off.

I know its tight for everyone, but at the same time, I'm wondering if they are doing it just to get as many packs sold as possible.
On saturday gone, my missus's brother bought some crab, and you could tell from the get go they were old and tired, he complained, and got told, its them or nothing, and he very nearly walked out with nothing, and as fate would have it, not a single thing touched them, he had his first blank in months.
I always put my rag in a coolbox and leave it there until needed, and only buy the same day I am going fishing, so it goes from the shop into the box, straight to the mark I am fishing.
