            Looks like Herring-seen a few spat up by Cod i have caught in Norway. I have yet to catch a herring so well done.

              Its a herring.

              Certainly is a herring Aqua-holic m8 seems to be quite a few around at the moment they are good for winter bait too and boat fishing as well.tight lines.

                  Yeah I would say herring too. The other option would be a shad but they have small dark spots that your fish does not show though the spots are sometimes absent just to make things more difficult

                      I see what you are saying Mike, difficult to say for sure because of the spotlight on the fish.

                      It is more than likely a herring.

                        It's difficult to be 100%.

                        I have fished Roker a few times and caught shad (or so I was told) whilst Mackerel bashing, mainly on the inside wall on the float with mackerel strip. Don't think they were herring as they were not small and around 11/2lb.

                        I have looked at a few photos and pics on the net and they are so alike.

                        Only way to tell is take one to the Dove Marine lab or the Sea life Centre.

                          I wouldnt keep a herring unless i was 1million percent as if your caught with a shad its a big fine

                            Shad shape is different too. 1 and half head lengths deep at the pelvic fin giving it a much deeper profile. Aqua's fish is much slimmer. No way its a shad. Too small, too slim, spotless, too many caught the same night.
