  • missed bites???

when im fishing and theres coleys about (billets) im almost certain its them biting but i miss loads of bites from them, i usualy use 2-0 or go down to 1-0 if im missing bites, my hook points are always exposed clearly and new hooks its happened on many sessions, i catch 1 every 4 bites usualy, even if i strike early or let the bite develop for a few minutes , does any one else have this problem with these fish or are my 1-0 aberdeens to big????

use smaller baits so the fish actually swallow it , rather than try and rive a bit off .

If I am missing bites, I always downsize hooks. Depends what I am fishing for but for flounders I go down to size 4 or 6. Usually increases hook ups. Small billet will take size 2 hooks easily and be strong enough for the bigger ones

i find the same, they very lightly nip at the bait and try and do off with it which is why you get massive bites and no hook ups. defo smaller hook but not necessarily smaller bait. the very small strips i found they didn't really have as much interest in when float fishing, switched back to big strips and they were nailing it. maybe to do with more fish could see it so they attack it more readily before another fish does. when bottom fishing for them i hold the spinning rod and strike as soon as i get any decent bite.

Hold your rod and wait until you feel the pull from the fish then strike if you don't feel anything put the rod down and wait for another bite
