do you ever get any on the pool to middle of the beach, never see anyone fishing it in the summer.thought of trying early morning or in the dark,is the beach to shallow.how about high tide off the old swimming pool casting onto sand or the middle of the beach at high tide, theres a big sand bar there at the min and the flatties at druridge are caught close in where the water is shallow and same at big beach s/shields

Last winter I caught three decent flounders by accident whilst fishing for codling at the marks on the north end of the Tynemouth Beach. One came from Stoney Bottom (about 12oz), one from the bottom of the stairs (10oz) and a huge, skinny flounder from a miscast into Barge Bottom (1lb3oz about 20yards out).
But like the lads above have said, they're few and far between. The ground is more suited to codling, coalies etc. I wonder whether the lack of crabs and the greater number of shrimps and razors make Druridge and the Northumbrian Beaches better for flatties than Tynemouth and Whitley.PBs...Cod 8lb2oz.. Turbot 3lb2oz.. Whiting 1lb8oz.. Coalie 1lb9oz.. Flounder 1lb7oz.. Dab 15oz.. Plaice 13oz.. Bass 1lb 6oz

they are there but not in the numbers that they used to be, had some realy big butts when fishing for cod, they took a 6/0 hook that is how big they where. You can get plaice on Tynemouth beach in the summer but not many. Don't know what happened to the flounder, at one time winter and summer when out on my wonders you could find them in the rock pools and pools made by the tide when it went out, but over the last couple of years when out with the dog have hardly come across any.Alan

Longsands Tynemouth.
Dont get me wrong had flounders over a pound from both Whitley and Tynemouth beaches while codling fishing september onwards, and within the last couple of years, never had a plaice, but they have turned up.Like Davey and Alan say if l had targeted flatfish would tend to try Boiler skeer ,Bottom of Stairs areas on Tynemouth.Watts Slope,Half Moons and Old Salts on Whitley all places caught them before regular even by accident.

there was a plaice caught from the half moon rocks last year nearly 5lbs in a Tynemouth match, there are nice holes either side which hold the odd flounder and occasional bass. davy.PB
