Is longsands (tynemouth) normally quiet on an evening? Thinking about heading up sometime to practice my casting. I know I won't catch much (if anything) but want to practice casting spinners / lures. Is parking normally OK on an evening?

Have to say that's a bit closer :-) I will give that a try as well. is there much to be caught at either during the summer or are they mainly winter beaches?

Longsands and Whitley are really winter venues but you may hit lucky with a flatty or more in the summer. Around St Mary's, the rocks at the south east corner would be my choice for spinning. Or you could wait for a calm sea and try Whitley pipe at low water. Both will be quiet enough to give you plenty of space to practice casting.

sand eel if using frozen is better to be used when spinning i find. if float fishing maccy use the silver part of the belly fish such as pollock and coalies think this is a sandell or other small baitfish.

peeler crab can also be good but imo ragworm is by far the best

sorry for all the questions guys, very new to shore fishing - usually go still water for trout. so...

Righty, so if I am wanting pollock etc I am better heading up to St Mary's and using either spinner or float. I was up at eyemouth at the weekend and got some 5" sand eel lures - would these be ok? What tide am I best going for up there? and does it get busy? last thing I want to be doing is catching other peoples lines.
