Absolute nonsense, they run absolutely fine as they are. I know a lot of people who've bought magged ones second hand, found the mags horrible and had to pay a fortune to get them put back to original condition. No reason whatsoever to ruin these reels by fitting mags, I wouldn't touch a magged one, but use pretty much nothing but regular 20's & 30's for most of my fishing (only use smaller reels for up to 15lb stuff).

Magging a saltist will loose abit of its value if you were to sell second hand and theres really no need too IMO, they should run nicely with just 1 red brake block in.

I have had this convo loads of times i have had break blocks and magged reels i like my reels to run slow in general but to get a reel running mint with mags is a doddle now break blocks if one is to fast 2 is to slow you have to mess about with oil thickness a magged reel lets you have more controll fact and also more distance fact so were is the ruined reel?

i wouldnt say magging a saltist is spoiling the reel brake blocks or mags all the same to me i prefer magnets as i keep loosing the brake blocks.
did you know panel pins comes in diff sizes ?

I wouldnt say the reel is ruined by magging, but imo they are better left as they are, its easy enough to control the reel by thumbing it when needed if theres a side/head wind.

                            Everyone has there preferances...

Anyway, im pretty sure theres little/no difference between the old silver saltists and the new black ones (accept they stay shiny for longer)
