every body thinks the mackerel are late this year but if i remember trom the 60s till about 10-15 years ago the used to come in just after the school holidays started 10 -15 years ago each year they seem to come in a little early so anglers expect them in late may early june i wonder have they reverted back till early july mackerel follow rhe sand eels with it being a cold winter and spring the sand eels might be a little late

the might of changed there school holiday till shipyard fortnight lol

Sand eels were in 6 weeks ago, and the cormorants were having a field day, I think its warmer seas, changing their migration patterns.

Posted the same on Scotty's thread. I remember growing up in the 1980's and Mackerel season was pretty much mid-July to the end of August, maybe early September if the weather was good. Our recent run of warm springs has seen them arriving early, this year is just nature getting back to it's more usual schedule.

surely its all about the cold spring. - dunno? is the commercials hammering them more than any other year? if so they could never wipe them all out in a few months - common sense.


look at a couple of years ago when them cold winters came in.
from december the cod nicked off.
and i remember not even getting a bite week after week for months. then a couple decent ones coming in back end of the season. - surely this proves the rapid change in temp put them off

different species but a previous example of how the balmy weather is changing the fishing.

personally i fish for cod all year round now, if the sea has a roll on.
might be able to say the same for makeral in flat seas in 20 years time
