every body thinks the mackerel are late this year but if i remember trom the 60s till about 10-15 years ago the used to come in just after the school holidays started 10 -15 years ago each year they seem to come in a little early so anglers expect them in late may early june i wonder have they reverted back till early july mackerel follow rhe sand eels with it being a cold winter and spring the sand eels might be a little late

surely its all about the cold spring. - dunno? is the commercials hammering them more than any other year? if so they could never wipe them all out in a few months - common sense.
look at a couple of years ago when them cold winters came in.
from december the cod nicked off.
and i remember not even getting a bite week after week for months. then a couple decent ones coming in back end of the season. - surely this proves the rapid change in temp put them off
different species but a previous example of how the balmy weather is changing the fishing.
personally i fish for cod all year round now, if the sea has a roll on.
