  • Dropping one down the side

After my first try at fishing straight down the side of the pier I want to know more . Is there a better time to do it ? Are there better times of the tide ? Should i stick with a fish bait or swoop it around? Are there any big un's down there lol . Cheers guys

I've had best results with small hooks and chunks of Bluey. You need a bit of water but you'd be surprised how many fish are just a couple of feet away from you at all stages of the tide. As for size, I had this maybe 10 feet out at the first gate on Shields a few weeks ago...

thread title is miss leading , I thought it had something to do with lack of toilets on piers .

Ive had decent fish from just over the side. Upto 2lb just messing around with hooks n bait. Wen I was 16, I won my community centre fishing competition with fishing down the side and catching the most fish ha ha they were the days. Any way stick at it mate u just never no wats down there u cud hook into any owt . Good luck

the best way to fish i rekon, fish like structure, and you're nearly always standing on the biggest structure around for the fish. for me fishing is about catching fish, big or small, just whatever is there. had pretty much all my pb's down the side so it's not just tiny fish and nearly always outfish people with this method too, not to be smug or anything haha. plus you can fish with really light gear!

I love fishing roker pier, seeing people blasting is as far as they can bless them.

A little 15 yard lib will put you on the fish, they look at you like youre daft for not wacking it out
