try a mono leader with braid main line, its wind knotts waiting to happen, even with a tapered leader i still get them, the heavy mono with the knott lifts a couple of loops of braid off the spool and it fluffs up when hits the first eye,you end up with a braid knott a couple of yards behind the leader knott.it stops happening with a braid leader, doesnt happen all the time with a mono leader but a pain when it does.if using a really stiff rod a braid leader might feel a bit harsh but with softer tip rods its no probs

ok, seems logical. I was just thinking for abrasion resistance mono would be better but that explains the 100lb breaking strain.

Spot on Pete. Using a braid leader with braid on a fixed spool completely eliminates any loops coming off and causing 'wind' knots. Plus the knot is small so there's no clattering through the guides and that's hitting the cast as hard as I can. It does feel harsh at first but you sharp get used to it and adjust your cast to it coming through a little sooner.
            Regards Nicky.
