  • Up n over or long and low rig

Ive been using long and low rigs with a bait clip towards the top of the rig that the line doubles over and the hook attatches to an impact shield above the lead.
Im having trouble with the doubled over line not disengaging from the the bait clip at the top so its presenting more like a flapper than the intended long and low.
The bait clips im using are a black silicone sheath that slides onto the rig body and a wire letter r shape ipside down that goes upwards into the silicone.
I dont want to use another impact shield as theyre a bit pricey. Anyone got any suggestions.
Ive seen the bait just hung on one of the gripper legs before and when ive cast yhat way it always seems to release without any tangles but its not as streamlined as id like for casting.
Is there a better way of making the line double over for clipping down which will be guaranteed to release every time?

been using that rig for over 10yrs - only very rarely had that problem! i use it for rays and huss so i use 50lb trace(which is fairly stiff).hope this helps.

i use two bait clips at top n bottom. i make the rig up clip it etc then apply the pressure on the crimps. i dont know why ur snood does not unfold. but maybe you need to let hit the water with a bit more oomph to collapse the line when it hit the seabed to enable the snood to fall off the clip? just an idea.
Punch and pull then let rip

Im using 10 or 15lb flouro which isnt as springy. Maybe 25lb amnesia would be a better choice. I tend to use fine wire hooks so I guess they would bend out before my 16lb main line goes

I normally just cut the top wire bait clip down with some wire cutters and smooth the end off with a file so it does damage the line then it unclips ok.

Been using the ones on the left because you can adjust the silicone if you lose a hook and need to re-tie it.

Think ill try the upside down genie at the top but with silicone sliders to trap the swivel down at the business end instead
