  • Kompressor SS

More than likely been lots of threads on here about them

Are they as good as people make them out to be?
What is the bite detection like?
I know theyre stiff but are they too stiff to cast and fish with?

Really thinking about getting one but want to hear a few peoples opinions on them first as theyre not cheap

There not stiff mate more if a all rounder pier work beach rivers and maybe a bit of rough bite detection is good at range but terrible close in personaly i think there over rated better mixed ground rods out there if your after a rough ground rod for big baits in my eyes this js not the rod tip folds away wjth a big bait on

Wanting something for the heavier ground, as it isnt really suitable

Think you need to have word with century and advice them on their own rods.

Back to the question, I've used a komp s in heavy ground with no problems, seahouses, beadnell etc and prefer it to the ss. All this macho bull about mega stiff rods is utter crap. The ss will do heavy ground all day, after all it's what they're designed for.
        Regards Nicky.

Aimed at me?whats macho in saying a ss is a all rounder but not to good for the rough stuff am sure thats what century have aimed it at so get of ya high horse and get ya facts right if it was centurys rough ground rod why woukd they have the ttr and eliminator???

Ss is a for clean to mixed
Wr 300 mixed with fast tidal
              Ttr mixed to heavy
              E1000 mixed to heavy

Nothing about being macho if you can use a spinning rod on the rough ground use it i prefer a stiff tip rod for cliffs and rough ground

                heres what Century say Phil
Danny Moeskops had a huge influence in the design of the Kompressor SS. He wanted a rod that would load up with 175 gram plus baited trace, reel brimming with line, 12 turns of 80lb shock leader and send a baited rig effortlessly into big seas and really rough ground. The upper tip retains the same compression curve of the Kompressor S however the lower barrel of the tip and butt is more powerful allowing energy to be stored and released through a series of enhanced Gearboxes. The smoothness of delivery is a revelation and the rod recovers quickly to allow the fast passage of line. The overall compression curve at maximum stretch prescribes a letter C. Deflection of the tip when anchored against a well secured lead and a tight line is indicative even to small taps and nudges.

Consider kelp jungles, really tough conditions that anglers encounter on the eastern seaboard of Scotland down to Yorkshire, Northern Scotland with its deep sea lochs, Wales and Cornwall, where local and roving anglers can battle the elements with confidence. The Kompressor SS has been completely evaluated in these venues by anglers who were impressed by the power, lightness and slimness of the rod that can send a baited trace and 200gm lead a very long way. If you are looking for exotic excursions – Danny has tamed Bronze Whaler sharks from the east African coast on this rod.

So that should answer your question why they developed another rough ground rod in the SS.
                Cheers Nicky

imo i think what phil has described the rods to do is what most think myself included , except imho again i reckon the ss will cope with heavy ground

i stand corrected but no one mentioned macho stiff rods i have had a few ss rods and what i have found is the tips to be to soft butts are fine but the tips fold with a big bait and when fishing rough ground i find a stiff tipped rod pulls your gear free better also a rough ground rod im my eyes js to be used off cliffs again the ss would not cope there so i cant understand how they can advertise it as a rough ground rod

Imo theres better rods to use in rough ground than the standard SS and better rods for chucking big leads/baits.

That said if you want a good all round rod you cant go far wrong with one, or even a stiffened up ss which copes with rough ground alot better.

I hated the SS I had - was difficult to load and get distance with a fishing pendulum. Found the Reelsport response and Sonik SK4 much better (until that snapped).
