  • Dunstanburgh Castle Rocks 26/5/13

Had a last minute trip up to Dunstanburgh Castle this afternoon. It was a lovely sunny day, got to the mark at Castle Rock at around 2pm after a walk from the Farm near the Golf Course. Nice and pleasant walk, there where plenty of people out enjoying our coastline today. Prospects looked quite good.

There were 3 or 4 people fishing when we got there, spinning and bait fishing, although we were greeted with the old 'nowt much happening' mumbles and grumbles... Undetered we set about our business.

Tried a range of Soft Plastics HRF style in the hope of Pollack or Wrasse, with no avail, so I changed to my LRF set-up with a Pink Isome. Just tapping the jighead and Isome on the bottom it wasn't long before I was feeling small taps at it. Sure enough......

Long Spined Sea Scorpion.... Thought it was a Short Spined (hence the card short), but after further scrutiny decided it wasn't!

Not much else happening so I changed to a short string of Prawn Teaser / Sabiki Style lures. Wasn't long before this little Fella had a go.....

Shortly after this I also hooked into a small Coley, only for it to drop off on the lift. Packed up and left at 5pm. So all in all a quiet but very enjoyable afternoon, with another species for the board and great scenery and sun.

I'll be returning for the Pollack and Wrasse in a couple of weeks ;-)
    Regards

good report mate, I was thinking about getting the lures out today but settled for a couple of hours bait fishing at shields pier, sea wasn't quite what I wanted for the lrf/hrf gear. I only had 1 small dab on the bait, just nice to be out on the coast on a day like today.tight lines

Water clarity was good on the Beach to the North but wasn't excellent around the Rocks. Still quite coloured. Mind you, it was still better than it is around here at the minute.
