  • First Post- St Abbs

    Hello Lads,
Had my first trip of the year to Sr. Abbs today. Left home at 5.30 and got to the upper car park at 6.30. The weather was glorious, it almost felt like summer, except for the 20 mph south westerly blowing. I packed my rucksack, strapped my rods on and headed to a mark i know is sheltered from the SW and fishes well at LT with shads and diving hard lures, when it works it's great seeing the fish come up from the kelp and take your lure!
Any way, got to to the mark and as i'd hoped was shelteded from the wind. I fished it as hard as i could for three hours chucking everything i had, sidewinder eels, diving hard lures, texas rigged Slug &] go's, tobys..., but got nowt

I decided to try a my favourite mark., it's a bit of a climb but i've never blanked and you can normally get the wind onto your back. Again, the fishing was hard and a few hours passed without even a nibble or a knock. A boat full of divers turned up and before i new it my fishing zone was full of bubbles...bye bye fish!

So took a tab break and changed my tactics. I rigged up a 10g carolina rig with a 12g awal sand eel in dark grey. As soon as those inconsiderate tw@ts had f@cked off i launched my new rig, let it sink the 70 or so feet to the bottom and started a slow retrieve with pauses. BANG! My Tronix MLbent over and the 12lb braid was screeming out of the tiny 2000 fixed spool. Finally, i had a fish!

After a fair little scrap i pulled out my first lure caught pollock of the spring. Not big by st abbs standards but at 2.5-3lb it was more than welcome to stink up my hands! (will post a pic when i figure it out). I put the fish back and got strait back to work hopeful for a long overdue lucky spell but before i knew it a couple of hours had passed and again i'd had nowt!

After a few snags and nearly being blown off balance by the strengthening wind and thrown into the sea, i decided to call it a day.

After 1 1/2 hours on the A1 i was sittin outside my local having a pint in the sun.

    Tight lines!

Great report! Good to hear a few fish getting caught. Should be in full swing before long. Last year early on in the season produced the fish for me then it went dead. Welcome to the site!

Thanks lads, it's good to get my first post on.
Think i've figured this forum thing out now and got the pictures from yesterday below on.

This is the mark. I fish the opposite side of the green ramp

The fish with my size 11 boot for scale. It had completely swallowed my lure.

I don't have any scales but I think it was between 2.5 to 3lb but it was good sport on the light gear!

I went again today, foolishly thinking the weather might be better, but will stick a separate report up.

                Cheers
