Spring is here

Ive always found February i real struggle for species hunting with lures. I've been kept busy hitting some productive pollock marks with the odd fish touching 77cm 9.5lb as there gathered up for spawning. With the recent drop in the wind but still freezing cold and a bit of the white stuff about I thought id hit a local open beach in search of some silver. I only lasted 2hrs before my hands were blue but managed 4 sea trout. One more for the species, now that spring is in the air I can now focus on a few more.

Thanks it was nice to see a few fish but its cold ATM ain't it.
If you drive towards Tynemouth from Whitley bay (along the prom) till you see a lamppost with a seagull sat on top, line that up with the red phone box and the pigeon that was sat on railing, go 50yrds past that and your there lol

Top work fella, i have a question i hope you will answer as it's not too mark specific, what state of the tide did you fish?

Its generally accepted that Bassboyo, isn't going to reveal his location or identity just yet, but we all agree he's not fishing in the north east.

A couple of things to consider if you want to go bag a sea trout, firstly you should get a rod license if your going to target these fish, secondly sea trout and salmon for that matter swim along our coast looking for river entrances' to head up stream and sporn, the River wear is one of the best Sea Trout rivers in the country, so with that in mind if i was to go out and target them id fish a low tide mark or the pier at high tide. I'd think I'd be waiting another month or so up here. If you keep an eye out for the netters around shields beach once the better are there the fish will be.

Interesting, i always thought sea trout migrated. When you say fish shallow, do you mean shallow water or just fish high up in the water.

Brown trout that have the desire to migrate to sea will normally stay very localised to that area, unlike salmon that will range far and wide. Fish shallow & shallow water, working out areas and what ground ST hold on takes a lot of work. If you can get hold of a DVD "sea trout secrets " you will learn a lot, maybe not the first time you watch but when you combine it with actual fishing you will.

Cheers, recently I got quite a few quantum mahi jigs and a p-boy with sea trout fishing in mind. I had my doubts about the shore fishing at this time of year but you've renewed my faith. Having a good sea trout river (the wear) isn't necessarily a good indicator of good local shore sea trout fishing. I'm just hoping than when you say local you're not too far from Sunderland 8)
