Welcome to my first lure report.....

I headed out for the Leas this morning planning to be there for first light but as it happens I was about 15 minutes late for that but still managed to get fishing in time to watch the sunrise. The water was as brown as coffee so the fish didn't stand much chance of seeing my lures but I had some new bits of kit to try out so was happy to treat the session as lure practice. I set up at Johnsons and fished from 7am until 9.30am over high water.

My rod is rated 15-60g and I usually use the middle of that range when I'm pollack fishing or mackerel fishing so I was keen to see how it would handle some lighter gear. I had some 15g jig heads and some 14g bullet heads to try with a selection of hooks and a few packets of isomes XL and L size. The jig and bullet heads looked way too big for the size L isomes but the XL looked about right. I had a play with both anyway.

Johnsons is a rocky mark and hence quite snaggy. I lost two jig heads to snags after only one cast each. I think I'll be saving those for clean ground marks. The bullet heads however were outstanding and I made one last the entire session by using a soft aberdeen style hook size 4 that could easily be bent out of snags with my 15lb braid. The lead was pretty beat up by the end of the session but I had not lost it so I will definately be using these in future. I think I may try a smaller size, maybe 10g, as my rod cast the 14g ones no problem and I think could get away with using slightly smaller ones and they would fit the size L worms better.

So no fish today but a useful session. Someone was bait fishing on Frenchmans point but packed in early so I guess they had no luck. I also spotted someone kayak fishing which I presume was our very own Phill_itofish. Maybe he will confirm later when he gets back in.

Although I caught nowt I gid get some nice photos ....

That's what I love about fishing places like that, even of you catch nothing you can still enjoy the peace and scenery. Great pictures!
