After much deliberation I finally settled on a new spinning outfit (which I'm very pleased with), this being a Grauvell Teklon 802ML teamed with a Shimano Rarenium 4000FB loaded with 25lb 8 strand G Soul braid and leader. I also bought some weedless soft plastics and one of those Maria Squash plugs, I had intended on buying more hard plugs but I thought this can wait till the water warms up further (still sub 10C according to my sounder on the boat).
It's been years since I bought spinning gear and god has the quality improved changed! The quality of the rod, braid and reel was like nothing I've used before, light but powerful with plenty of feel. I was a bit sceptical about using only a 12g soft plastic but I was pleasantly surprised at the distance I was getting, assisted of course by the ultra fine braid.
Anyway, had a trip out last night and after a fruitless hour had a rest and watched my bait rod (I was hungover so it was a lazy session). N joy with baot so back onto the spinning rod, second cast - bang! One hell of a scrap ensued with the fish stripping line and taking me into two snags; both of which I thought would be game over! Fortunately, after a tremendous scrap a few minutes later I landed a Pollock of around 3lb taken on a 12g Fiish Black Minnow!
It's been years since I've spun and caught a decent fish, needless to say my faith and enthusiasm has been fully restored! I can't wait to get back out!
Thanks for reading, tight lines!
