  • Kayak up St Abbs

Head up to St Abbs on Wednesday with Nathan, the kayaks and the lures. The forecast was for moderate westerly winds so the plan was to stay close to shore and fish the bays around the head. We arrived at Pettico bay about 8:30 to find the the wind blowing from the north. We fished around the bays south of Pattico for a few hours catching Mackerel, Coding, Coley and Pollock up to 5lb. The bays provided a good amount of shelter from the wind. Next we headed North back past the launch point, it was a challenging paddle, paddling against wind and tide was hard work but doable. The Northern bays were a lot less sheltered than we had hoped so not to be defeated we found a small island and landed, we fished here for a while taking some nice fish including a deep red kelpy at about 2 1/2lb. Back on the kayaks we set out to drift south back to Pettico and back round towards the head, drifting with the wind, using our drouges produced plenty of fish, and coley up to 3lb. All in all a cracking day out, shame about the wind.
