Set of bright and early Thursday morning, picking Si up at 05:00 and Nat shortly after that, pointed the car north and headed to our first mark, Torness. We got there a couple of hours before low tide and as ever the resident "Paper Boys" where there trying to fill the sacks. After a while using the hard plastics, and only seeing our Asian counterparts pull in one fish on there redgills i decided to clip on a trusty Zenith and try and find what depth the fish were feeding at, second or third cast, fishing high in the water at speed, bang bang, fish on. After a quick photo i quickly released the fish, my first bass of the year . As i was species hunting i gave up on the bass after that and concentrated on trying for a mullet and maybe a new micro out of the rock pools while Nat and Si cracked on trying for a bass. By low water the mark was pretty much unfishable and the lads chances of a bass were dwindling. We did get a glimpse of a few mullet, unfortunately they were tangled up in a gill net. Not too happy about the net we asked one of the locals what the crack was, his reply was, "local nut case mate, best stay well clear of it" so we did. Si and Nat didn't manage a bass and i didn't have any luck with the Mullet. We did manage a few Blenny but no new species so we headed off to St Abbs.
St Abbs was as productive as usual, with plenty of Pollock, Coley and loads if Mackerel. Between the three of us we tried just about everything to get a wrasse but non showed up. Once again the little silver spinners were the most productive lures. And i did manage to get a couple of good size Mackerel on the Ultra Light Rock Fish rod, putting up a great fight on the lrf setup.
All in all a good day out, im sure Si will add a bit to this post and put the pictures up when he gets back home.
